Cultivate Charlottesville builds a healthy and just food system for all. We believe that access to fresh healthy food is a human right. We are building food equity – personally, in community and across systems. We are people of Charlottesville growing food, sharing food,and advocating for food equity.

GROW

City Schoolyard Gardens connect students to where food is grown. Students tend eight schoolyard gardens at Charlottesville City elementary, middle and high schools. In the garden, students explore nature, discover through experiences, enhance academic learning, build equity, and cultivate healthy living skills.

The Urban Agriculture Collective works in partnership with public housing residents to cultivate production gardens where they grow and share up to 17,000 pounds of fresh produce per year. The produce is shared at no cost with families who experience food insecurity at regular Community Market Days.

Food Justice Network advocates for a healthy and just food system for all. Together, community members, nonprofit leaders, and city officials ignite dialogue, create policies, and implement practices so that all residents will have the food they need to thrive
