Focus: The Power to Grow plank of the

Food Equity Initiative Policy Platform

Partner Profiles: IRC New Roots Growers & FJN Community Advocates

Please mark your attendance for the upcoming meeting  with an RSVP HERE

Our April 26 Meeting Goals:

  1. Develop a shared understanding of the FEI Policy Plank #2 The Power to Grow
  2. Share how our work aligns with and advances The Power to Grow
  3. Grow connections and collaborations for greater The Power to Grow Impact

Focus for 2023!

In 2023 the Food Justice Network will focus on digging deep into the Food Equity Initiative Policy Platform - one plank at a time.  Each meeting we will come together, learn about the intentions of each policy goal, and share how our work aligns with and advances that plank of the platform. By the end of the year we hope to have a clear assessment of collective progress in our community towards building a healthy and just food system. Add your impacts toward each plank in our FEI Impact Tracker.

We look forward to connecting as the Food Justice Network Large Group on April 26!

Spotlighting Ways to Engage & Learn

Livable Cville has been working with the Charlottesville Low Income Housing Coalition (CLIHC) to identify key priorities for the City's Zoning rewrite that align with affordable housing and equity values.  Zoning is key to addressing our housing crisis. We encourage you to subscribe to the Livable Cville newsletter and advocate for recommendations to improve racial equity and expand affordable housing!

There is still space to sign up for their next webinar Missing Middle Housing: Racial Equity & Opportunity. Sign up HERE

Cville Plans Together is now deep into the Zonining rewrite for the Charlottesville Comprehensive Plan. They are holding an open house for more information this Saturday April 15 (10am-12:30pm):  CitySpace Conference Room 100 5th Street NE.

Modules 1 and 2 are now available for review on the website. Submit comments on these two modules by April 30.

Module 3 Update: You can learn a bit about Module 3 (the "Table of Authority") at the Open House, or on the Open House materials available on the website.

It's not too late to join us in the 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge hosted by Food Solutions New England. Click HERE to register. Dates of Challenge are April 3-23 but they list previous days information on their site.

Our Cultivate Board and staff are engaged in the challenge and are sharing our stories of "The First Time I Realized I Was Black" , what does "Wellbeing and Belonging" mean to us individually and collectively, and how do we move from "Transactional to Transformational" work and relationships.

Because it wouldn't work without our supporters...

Networks like Food Justice Network of Cultivate Charlottesville would not exist without the partnerships of powerful organizations, the support of dedicated volunteers, and the generous funding from foundations and donors. We owe a huge thank you to the City Council of Charlottesville, the Hartfield Foundation, the Adiuvans Foundation, No Kid Hungry Centering Equity Fund, and more.

Thank you!

If you'd like to support the important work of Cultivate Charlottesville's Food Justice Network and fund the movement, please donate.
